Functional Assessment of Corticospinal Conduction with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: Basic Principles
Klinische Neurophysiologie 2010, 41(1), , 12-22
Here we review how transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is used in clinical practice to examine the functional integrity of the fast conducting fibres of the human corticomotor path ways. We first summarise the technical and physiological principles of TMS that are relevant to its clinical use. We then discuss the neurophysiological measures that are used to characterise corticospinal conduction. Finally we present a step-by-step description of how to perform TMS in clinical practice
