Professor Ivan Toni will give a talk entitled 'Neural mechanisms for generating novel shared symbols'.

Professor Ivan Toni's research is focused upon the mechanisms supporting the integration of rules and perceptual processes into the sensorimotor machinery of the human brain. He studies this integration in the domains of instrumental and communicative actions, i.e. actions selected for changing either the physical state of the world, or the mental state of another agent. Methodologically, he studies the integration between percepts, concepts, and movements by considering both healthy and pathological human subjects, using a variety of neuphysiological techniques.
