DRCMR’s postdoc Vanessa Wiggermann has received a research grant of DKK 1.06 million from the Lundbeck Foundation for her project on mapping gray matter demyelination in primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) at 7 Tesla.
This grant extends her current funding from the Danish Sclerose Foundation to study gray matter changes in primary progressive MS. Gray matter changes in PPMS are much more extensive than in other types of MS. Monitoring gray matter changes is of great importance to understanding how PPMS affects the brain and how new PPMS treatments can potentially protect and repair it.
Vanessa’s research is focused on developing improved MRI acquisitions for MS and identifying biomarkers that will help to diagnose and treat MS patients earlier in order to improve their quality of life.
