We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoc candidate (2-year period) to work on a brain stimulation project in patients with focal dystonia affecting the hand. The project combines transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and ultra-high field functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We will use a novel TMS intervention to shape sensorimotor representations of the hand in the human motor cortex. 7T fMRI and neuro-navigated TMS will be used to map plasticity changes at unprecedented functional resolution.
About us:
The Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance (DRCMR) is one of the leading research centers for biomedical MRI in Europe (www.drcmr.dk). Our mission is to triangulate MR physics, basic physiology, and clinical research. Approximately 70 researchers from a diverse range of disciplines are currently pursuing basic and clinically applied MR research with a focus on structural, functional, and metabolic MRI of the human brain and its disorders. The DRCMR is embedded in the Center for Functional and Diagnostic Imaging and Research, a large diagnostic imaging department including all biomedical imaging modalities at Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre. DRCMR has close interaction with clinicians and radiologists and a state-of-the-art MR-research infrastructure, which includes a pre-clinical 7T MR scanner, six whole-body MR scanners (one 7T, three 3T and two 1.5T scanners), a neuropsychology laboratory, an EEG laboratory, and two laboratories for non-invasive brain stimulation.
The ideal candidate
Should be an internationally oriented team player with:
- A PhD degree or corresponding qualification in engineering, physics, neuroscience, computer science, or related field, preferably with experience in functional MRI and/or transcranial magnetic stimulation.
- A strong documented background in systems neuroscience and functional MRI and/or transcranial magnetic stimulation.
- Proficiency in computer programming (e.g. Matlab, Python), statistics, and experimental neuroscience work.
- Knowledge of motor neuroscience and disorders of the motor system.
- Interest in multimodal integration of brain imaging methods.
- High motivation and ability to efficiently structure his / her own work while at the same time being willing to contribute to the project team.
- Fluency in English (verbal and writing) and good communications skills. Danish language knowledge is not a requirement.
Your tasks:
- Design and conduct functional brain imaging and TMS experiments, data analysis and validation.
- To advance the field through your own research.
- To be engaged in supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students, knowledge dissemination and publishing in internationally recognized scientific journals.
Your position:
The candidate will be employed for a two-year period starting as soon as possible (preferably 1st April 2019) at the Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance where he / she will be part of the Precision Neuromodulation and Therapy and the Movement Disorders groups.
Salary and Terms of Employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Regions (Danske Regioner) and the relevant professional organization. The salary depends on background education and seniority. Further supplements can be negotiated. Note that candidates coming from abroad may be eligible for tax reductions.
